The Financial Plan of a Blog

John Onam

Every blogger ought to have a financial plan , which is basically a vision of how much the blogger is going to be earning from his/her blog on a regular basis.

In this post, you should learn that the financial plan is:
  • the first action a blogger should take, before creating his blog, but,
  • the last thing that should be on his mind when he/she has started the blog.
Also you would be able to see how the financial plan is the center-piece of your internet business (blog) and how it affects other plans for your blog.

Then finally, you would be shown an example of a financial plan- mine to be precise- to serve as a guide to creating your blog's financial plan.

What is a blog's financial plan?

Blog financial plan is a projection of how much money( net income) a blog should make at a defined rate(time.)
For instance, when a blogger says: "I want to earn $200 per month from my blog."
That blogger is saying:

  1. How much money - $200
  2. The rate the money is to be made - every month.
If this blogger goes ahead to create a step-by-step outline of how to achieve that level of income from his blog, he would have succeeded in creating a financial plan.

Why all bloggers must have a financial plan

In order to see why you need a financial plan for your blog, let's first consider why we blog.

Bloggers blog for two major reasons:
  1. For Fun: That is, doing it as a hobby or pastime. This how most people start
  2. For Money: This involves blogging primarily to make money regularly as a result.
But then, even if you are blogging for fun, when financial needs arise, like that for bandwith expansion due to increased traffic to your blog, and such like, then you would have no other option than to blog for money. Examples include Ashley Qualls, Chloe Spencer, and so on.

So however you wish to start blogging, you must end up blogging for money. This is enough, a reason you need to have a financial plan for your blog at the onset.

From another point of view, a blog is your internet business. And, just as every successful business, no matter the size, starts with a business plan; and every building, must be built according to a plan, so also must your blogging be done according to a plan if you are to succeed in making your target income from it.

The Blogging Plan

A blogging plan would contain the following:
  1. The Blog Financial Plan
  2. The BlogContent Plan
  3. The Blog Make-up Plan.
But this topic is addressing the first and foremost, because the blog financial plan, like I said earlier is the Center-stage and connects with every other plan in your blog as you will notice shortly.
